Nepal is a country of mysteries. Tourists come here to see the mountains and enjoy the culture. Nepal counts among one of those countries which were never invaded. And, the following are the 10 things, Nepali people are very proud of and for you, the things you need to be careful when talking about them:-

1. Mount Everest

The highest mountain in the World - Mount Everest is a part of Nepal. People here call it - Sagarmatha which means FOREHEAD of the SKY. And there is an entire settlement around the mountains, who are famous around the world as - the SHERPA's. They are among one of the highest dwellers on Earth.

Mount Everest is a pride of Nepali people. And Government of Nepal has even put a Picture of it in Every Nepali note; after the democracy.

Many tourists visit Nepal to climb Mount Everest yearly and you may have known that first successful climb was made by Nepali citizen, Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand citizen, Sir Edmund Hillary.

You can go upto Everest Base Camp. Yearly thousands (40,000+) tourists visit this destination and reach up to 5,655.6m/18,518ft (Kala Patthar). Even beginners can do this trek with proper acclimatization.

2. The Lord Buddha

Lord Buddha was a philosopher and the founder of Buddhism. He was a prime example of peace and kindness. His original birthplace is in the Lumbini of Nepal. He is also famed as the Light of Asia. And Nepali people celebrate a big festival every year on the occasion of his birthday, which is on 14 May. The festival is officially called Buddha Jayanti.

There is much more to his philosophy, but one of the most notable ones is the "The Noble Eightfold Path", the way to end the suffering. And main principles are below:

3. No Independent Day (Never been invaded)

Nepal has never been invaded by any of the foreign countries. So, there is no Independent Day. Nepal has never been successfully captured - enemies have attacked but Nepal always won against them.

4. Prithvi Narayan Shah

Prithvi Narayan Shah is one of the most respected kings of Nepal. He is referred as the founder of modern Nepal. He colonized divided nation and formed Nepal as of it is now. You can say that he is like Mahatma Ghandi of Nepal.

5. Living Goddess - Kumari

Kumari is a Living Hindu Goddess of Nepal. It translates to 'virgin' in English and she is the only living goddess in the world. Nepalese celebrate Indra Jatra to worship her.

6. Gorkhali - Famous as Gurkhas

Gurkha's and the famous Khukuri used by them are very popular with the history of the world. They are considered the bravest soldiers of the world. Nepali people take pride in becoming one of the certified Gorkhali.

7. Chandra Bahadur Dangi

He holds the Guinness world title for the world's shortest man. And the notable thing is that he was recognized at the age of 70. Although he no longer lives in this world, he remains a symbol of pride to Nepal and Nepalese people.

8. Dhaka/ Dhaka Topi

Dhaka is a type of cotton made clothing. This cloth is unique for its patterned design. The original clothing is handwoven and made using traditional techniques. Because of its popular design, many fabric made clothing had started to mass copy.

In Nepal, a kind of cap made up of Dhaka, known as Dhaka Topi is very popular and takes pride whenever wearing it. And there is special Dhaka Topi wearing day.

9. One of a kind Triangular Flag

The Nepali flag, which is a combination of two triangles always stands out. Nepali people take pride in this flag, not only because of its shape but because of its symbolization. The flag's red color represents the national flower of Nepal, rhododendron and the blue color represents Peace.

10. Cow, Spiny Babbler & Tiger

The cow is the national animal of Nepal. When the whole world is enjoying beef, we Nepalese do not kill the cow because is it illegal and we worship it.

Spiny Babbler is the bird found only in Nepal. It was first declared extinct but later the American ornithologist, Sidney Dillon Ripley came to know about its existence. Although the number of birds is still unknown - it is said that the quantity is apparent.

Royal Bengal Tiger is an endangered species, estimated to be less than 2500 as of 2011 in the world. According to the camera trapping survey of 2013 February, it was estimated that there are 163-235 adult tigers in the forest of Nepal.
